Based on black & white footage from Japanese artist Hiraki Sawa, common day utensils such as a cup or a toothbrush took on a life of their own when composited over video during playback.

GOMA_Thumbnail_1000x625This most original and challenging project was part of the ‘ASIA-PACIFIC TRIENNAL’ (APT) located at the Queensland ‘Gallery Of Modern Art’ Brisbane (GOMA). Dedicated to children, it was designed to be playful yet artistic and visually compelling.

Children would sit at one of the four table tops and select one or two objects to interact with on the five LCD screens situated in front of them. By moving the objects across the image sensitive surface, the objects mirrored onscreen would rise slightly, sprout legs and move across the screen as directed by the player.

The result was outstanding and the Kids’ APT was nominated as one of the most appealing elements of the ‘Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’.
