/CEX Art Auction Raises Nearly $20k for Youngcare

On the evening of Wednesday 16 October Cutting Edge hosted the second inaugural CEX Charity Art Auction, raising nearly $20,000 for charity, Youngcare. 28 professional creatives from across Brisbane’s advertising industry took up the challenge, transforming bowling pins into art for a great cause. Contributors came from both creative studio, Cutting Edge and prominent agencies BCM, Gilimbaa, Rumble, VMLY&R and Publicis. Their creative advertising roles spanned all disciplines, from copywriting and art direction, to animation and sound design.

“This year things ramped up quite a bit. There were more works of art, and they were even more elaborate. It’s fascinating how unique and diverse each was. With the contributor coming from such varied creative roles, it’s exciting to see how they approach the challenge of turning a blank bowling pin into art,” said Blaize Bennett, CEX organiser.

Host, Gretel Killeen was joined by over 200 art enthusiasts who duked it out with some tough bidding wars, looking to snag their favourite pin. The battle momentarily interrupted by a surprise performance by guitarist Simon Garner, who put a bowling pin shaped guitar through its paces. 

The event was all for a great cause; raising nearly $20000 to support young Australians with high-care needs. 

“This event is significant for us at Youngcare, because Brisbane’s advertising industry and Cutting Edge have been longtime supporters of us and they continue to lend their creativity and passion. It’s a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for our cause,” said Anthony Ryan, Youngcare CEO.

“Amazing art and an impressive result; the auction is not only a load of fun, but also a wonderful way for Youngcare to share our story. Each year is bigger than the last, and I am already excited to see what the artists come up with next year,” he continued.

Youngcare helps provide in-home support and purpose built homes that help offer age-appropriate housing for young Australians who would otherwise have no choice but to live in aged care facilities.

“There are 12,000 young Aussies living in residential aged care, hospitals and rehab centres, because there is nowhere else for them to go. We’re fighting to offer young people with high care needs choice, independence and dignity in their own homes. It was very heartwarming to have the support of Cutting Edge and Brisbane’s creative industry,” said Anthony.
