25 Years of Cutting Edge Post Production

Cutting Edge’s Brisbane studio transformed into a burlesque themed club for the evening. A 25th birthday is a significant milestone and we chose to share it with a couple hundred of our closest friends. Guest were treated to burlesque performances, live music and plenty of cocktails. Reflecting on the achievements of the last quarter century, Owner Ray Smith said, “this all began with just 3 people, and today we have more than 200 employees. That’s pretty impressive.” “It’s our clients that got us here. We are thankful for their ongoing support and we’re looking forward to another 25 years creating world-class creative content together.”
Setting the atmosphere: Top of the Lake China Girl

Top of Lake: China Girl is the second installment in the mystery drama series created and written by Jane Campion and Gerard Lee. The six-part series sees Nicole Kidman join a cast led by Elisabeth Moss, who returns as detective Robin Griffin. Set four years after the original series, China Girl sees Griffin back in her hometown, Sydney, where she has been tasked with investigating the death of an unidentified Asian girl whose body is discovered in a suitcase. The British-Australian co-production premiered at the Cannes Film Festival – the second television show to ever premiere at the festival – where it received a standing ovation and has since gone on to break viewing records on BBC First. Cutting Edge Creates VR Documentary Experience for SBS VR

SBS VR recently partnered with Cutting Edge to launch ‘Inside Manus’, a virtual reality documentary experience, exploring the imprisonment of asylum seekers in the offshore detention centre, Manus Island. With the concept of such detention centers foreign to most Australians, the people on Manus Island are cloaked behind a media blackout. SBS has harnessed the immersive power of VR, in a world-first documentary for virtual reality filmmakers. Guiding the audience behind the razor-wire fences, ‘Inside Manus’ shares the story of three current detainees who are being denied their freedom, their rights, and even their identity. To tell their stories, ‘Inside Manus’ share detainees experiences from their own words and their own voices. After completing 180 shots for the fifth installment, we sat down with VFX supervisor, Rangi Sutton, as he divulged the inspiration behind the action-packed blockbuster, and how the VFX team brought this film to life, to ensure die-hard fans had plenty to marvel at.

Last night marked the 54th Australian Export Awards, a national program that recognises Australian businesses for their export achievements and contribution to Australia’s economic prosperity. One of the nation’s biggest and most creative post production studios, Cutting Edge, collected their second national award for their contribution to exports for Australian creative industries.
