/Cutting Edge welcomes today’s rebate announcement by the Queensland Government

October 18 2018

Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, announced a state based Post Production, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) cash rebate of 10%, replacing the previous grant. When combined with the Federal Government PDV Offset of 30%, a total rebate of 40% is available, and the lower Aussie dollar (currently $1.00 USD buys $1.38 AUD), it is beneficial for Post and VFX to done in Queensland (regardless of where the project is shot).

The new rebate is for qualifying productions working in Queensland with Cutting Edge or other Queensland PDV providers:

  • Eligible formats include: feature films, telemovies, miniseries, and television series (including documentary, reality, animation and live action).
  • Minimum spend in Queensland $500,000 AUD
  • No cap
  • Cash rebate paid to the production company
  • Can be combined with federal government incentives (Location Offset and Producer Offset)
  • No cultural or content tests

Cutting Edge is Queensland’s largest post production and VFX studio with facilities in Brisbane and at the Village Roadshow Studios (Gold Coast). With one of the most respected post and VFX teams in Australia, we are poised to welcome new productions to Queensland.

“Today’s announcement by the Queensland Government reinforces the support for the film and television industry in our state and we thank the Premier for her government’s ongoing commitment. Queensland is a hub for world class post production and VFX practitioners and this new rebate will strengthen our local industry. Cutting Edge has built a strong creative studio, and the incentives announced today make it more appealing than ever for productions to access the talents of our Queensland based team,” said Michael Burton, Cutting Edge Co-owner and Director.

Cutting Edge’s Queensland studio has been delivering post production for international feature film and television projects since opening its doors more than 25 years ago. This year Cutting Edge has contributed to film and television projects including: A-X-L, Upgrade, Peter Rabbit, Halloween, Tidelands, Harrow and Winchester.

“Productions that bring their post and VFX projects to Queensland will benefit from our experience of more than two decades working alongside film-makers – helping them craft cinematic moments. We have learnt to be flexible and adaptable, but always focused on the creative,” Burton explained.
