“Marcus and the entire Cutting Edge team have come through for us time and time again, most recently on Leigh Whannell's 'Upgrade' and David Gordon Green's 'Halloween'”

Jason Blum / Blumhouse

Halloween returns to the characters and the spirit of the original. While Halloween 2018 marks the eleventh film in the franchise, it is a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s original 1978 classic. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Cutting Edge’s VFX team had a lot of fun rebooting a horror masterpiece. As the sole VFX vender, the team delivered in excess of 300 seamlessly integrated shots. The team delivered a large variety of shots and were instrumental in delivering the blood and gore needed to make a good slasher film. Halloween opened to a record breaking first weekend of $80M US.

“Our approach on a lot of the gore was to take it further than expected on the first pass. Interestingly, we never really managed to take it too far for the director or producers. Our ‘over the top’ version seemed to always make it into the final cut”

Simon Maddison / VFX Supervisor
